Origins

The year 1916 was the year the company that is known today as SAET SWEETS was founded. They began to produce plant extracts, including licorice extract. Later they began to manufacture products from this extract and the GATOS brand of licorice bars was born.

It was in 2005, through the third generation of the family, that the definitive push was given, creating the Saet Sweets brand. There was a change in the location of its facilities and modernization of the factory and production processes. This has led them to have their space on an international level, and the Gatos brand is already known in countries of the European Union, such as Italy, France or Germany, and in countries in the rest of the world such as the USA, Israel or Morocco.

Quality of your products

Saet Sweet manufactures its catalog based on natural products and in a traditional way. All their products have as their main raw material their licorice extract, which is extracted from the root, a bush with a bright bluish lilac bush that reaches a height of one to two meters, and chosen root by root to always give the best flavor.

Licorice is collected from humid areas on the banks of rivers. It is found in river areas of Mediterranean environments with little rain. Especially in areas near the Ebro River and areas of the South and East of the Peninsula.

Saet Sweet manufactures good, old-fashioned licorice. They do it using pure licorice extract, and turn it into the delicious GATOS® bars that have been on the market for more than 50 years.

IFS Global Markets Food

Saet Sweet operates under the IFS Global Markets – Food program, a standardized food safety program for both distributors and the food industry, based on the GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) comparative framework.

The process of cooking, extrusion, pressing and sugar coating of sweets that are packaged in Saet Sweet's plastic flowpack, cans, boxes and flowpack is approved by the IFS Global Markets Food program.
